Au revoir Lucie…

Lucie poses with some clients who sure were sad to see her go

Our first post in 2011 (We’ve been a bit naughty lately) brings some sad news.

Earlier this year we had to say ‘farewell’ to our darling Lucie Marie who has left us to go back to her native France. At the moment she’s frolicking her days away in some pretty exotic locations before she takes one final look at Australia and then makes her long way home. We’re missing Lucie A LOT and secretly hope she’ll miss Australia (And us, more importantly) enough to come back one day…

In other news…

A new year brings a new and exciting window collaboration that will see the work of Box Hill Tafe fashion students gracing our salon window.

COMING SOON … Watch this space!

Presenting Sharlee Young and Jon Cordiano

Check out our window this month by Sharlee Young and Jon Cordiano for the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students. More here.

We want to scream the biggest ‘congratulations’ in the world from the top of our lungs to the insanely talented Genevieve Kulesza for achieving Second place in the 2010 Australian National Final of the Triumph Inspiration Award.

As the competition’s official pages say, the “Triumph Inspiration Award is a global design competition, which challenges students from all over the world to conceptualize and design lingeries completely by their own inspiration.”

Below is a selection of images from the event. Well done Genevieve!!!!

‘Fringe’ is a millinery realization on a larger scale.

Fashion design graduate and milliner extraordinaire Nikolina Kucan is the latest in a long line of RMIT students invited to exhibit her creations in the Blondes to Brunettes salon window as part of the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students.

In her own words, the installation is an extension of recent experiments with shape and form. Nikolina goes on to say that as much as she has strived to create aesthetically pleasing pieces, her work is as much about technicality and refining her method of practice.

So, with ‘FRINGE’, a simple thing like removing a shape from a sculpted form has moved the piece into a new dimension.

“Challenging our own notions of the perceived silhouette as well as introducing imperfect perfection; who would have thought that cutting into a intended shape would bring it so much life and exquisiteness.” – Nikolina Kucan

Earlier this month we hit Caulfield Grammar for their annual World Greatest Shave event. Here are the pics!

Blondes to Brunettes is delighted to announce the arrival of our newest RMIT fashion designer in residence, Genevieve Kulesza.

Genevieve brings to the salon an exciting new aesthetic that will grace our window throughout the month of April.

We will have more on Genevieve Kulesza and the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students very soon.

Until then, check out Innards – genevieve kulesza and the growing hybrid where she tracks the creation of the back wall display.

The Hosies live at Blondes to Brunettes

The Hosies are Xani and Meg Kolac

Meg Kolac‘s designs will continue to grace the window of Blondes to Brunettes throughout L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival season. Meg is currently exhibiting her garment designs and fashion illustrations at the salon as part of the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students. It just so happens that she also plays in a band called The Hosies with her sister Xani.

On Friday 12 March The Hosies played live at Blondes to Brunettes.

The full report is on its way.

Meg's illustrations will also adorn the salon interiors

Meg has ensured that our clients also benefit from her installation as they get their hair done

Meg Kolac arrived at the salon yesterday, and with her she brought a storm of creative goodness. For now this is all we’ve got for you. However, there’ll be more exciting news and views very soon. Till then, know that fourth year RMIT fashion design student Meg Kolac is the third student to exhibit at Blondes to Brunettes as part of the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students. To celebrate her arrival we’ve got a little competition going. Check it out!

The work of RMIT University Fashion Design student Georgia Head is currently on show at the salon.

What you see here are images of Georgia preparing the installation piece.

We asked Georgia to put together a few words about herself. What stood out for us was her definition of a garment: “the narrower dwelling that surrounds us”. Georgia’s installation piece will remain in the salon window for a little while longer. We’re excited to have been exposed to Georgia’s immense creativity and hope you will be drawn to see her work for yourself.

This is Georgia.

We’re in the process of creating some pretty cool new additions to our website, one of which is a somewhat different way of introducing some exciting new things that are going on at the salon.

Here’s a little teaser from the photo shoot we did the other day.

What’s important to know? The photo shoot stars Lauren our new beautician, Jessie our in-house model and a glorious new vanilla bean body treatment.

Bon appetit!

The candle is lit and the oil from it is massaged in

The treatment lasts for one and a half hours

What follows is a glorious experience of vanilla bean, walnuts and rice grains

It's a body, mind and spirit experience
