Our first post in 2011 (We’ve been a bit naughty lately) brings some sad news.

Earlier this year we had to say ‘farewell’ to our darling Lucie Marie who has left us to go back to her native France. At the moment she’s frolicking her days away in some pretty exotic locations before she takes one final look at Australia and then makes her long way home. We’re missing Lucie A LOT and secretly hope she’ll miss Australia (And us, more importantly) enough to come back one day…

As the competition’s official pages say, the “Triumph Inspiration Award is a global design competition, which challenges students from all over the world to conceptualize and design lingeries completely by their own inspiration.”

‘Fringe’ is a millinery realization on a larger scale.

Fashion design graduate and milliner extraordinaire Nikolina Kucan is the latest in a long line of RMIT students invited to exhibit her creations in the Blondes to Brunettes salon window as part of the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students.

In her own words, the installation is an extension of recent experiments with shape and form. Nikolina goes on to say that as much as she has strived to create aesthetically pleasing pieces, her work is as much about technicality and refining her method of practice.

So, with ‘FRINGE’, a simple thing like removing a shape from a sculpted form has moved the piece into a new dimension.

The Hosies live at Blondes to Brunettes

The Hosies are Xani and Meg Kolac

Meg Kolac‘s designs will continue to grace the window of Blondes to Brunettes throughout L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival season. Meg is currently exhibiting her garment designs and fashion illustrations at the salon as part of the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students. It just so happens that she also plays in a band called The Hosies with her sister Xani.

On Friday 12 March The Hosies played live at Blondes to Brunettes.

Meg Kolac arrived at the salon yesterday, and with her she brought a storm of creative goodness. For now this is all we’ve got for you. However, there’ll be more exciting news and views very soon. Till then, know that fourth year RMIT fashion design student Meg Kolac is the third student to exhibit at Blondes to Brunettes as part of the Blondes to Brunettes + RMIT Fashion Friendship: 365 Days of Design by RMIT Fashion Design Students. To celebrate her arrival we’ve got a little competition going. Check it out!

We asked Georgia to put together a few words about herself. What stood out for us was her definition of a garment: “the narrower dwelling that surrounds us”. Georgia’s installation piece will remain in the salon window for a little while longer. We’re excited to have been exposed to Georgia’s immense creativity and hope you will be drawn to see her work for yourself.
